Local college students protest Trump, Project 2025 … because why the hell not

Trump is literally shaking: Around 100 show up in a city of 700,000

Progressive college students across the country really don’t know what to do now that Donald Trump is back in the White House — as evidenced by their 2017-2021-era tactics.

The Vanderbilt Hustler recently reported on how roughly 100 people, including students from schools such as Western Kentucky University and Volunteer State Community College, took to the streets of Nashville, Tennessee to yammer about The Donald and Project 2025.

The demonstration was part of the 50501 movement (50 protests in all 50 states in one day — get it?), a supposed “decentralized rapid response to the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration and its plutocratic allies.”

The 50501’s two “partners” are Political Revolution (which “advances politics in America through progressive grassroots activism”) and No Voice Unheard (which “aims to empower those the current U.S. administration and its operatives seek to silence”).

The former is so “progressive” that it doesn’t allow any links from X (Twitter) via its Reddit account (because “fuck Nazis”), and has a merchandise section featuring a Neck “Fist” Gaiter (is it still 2021?).

Signs carried by the Nashville protesters included “When the people have nothing left to eat they will eat the rich,” “Say ‘no’ to genocide abolish ICE,” and “Hands off our wives.”

Some activists draped in Mexican flags had signs reading “We are immigrants on stolen land.”

And don’t forget the “All lives matter, God is love, this is not God’s will, Love Trump’s [sic] hate, Impeach Hitler #47.” Classic.

Belmont University student Kay Wright said “We are protesting overall against Trump and [the] many policies that he’s put toward reelection. People are not illegal. Gay rights are rights. Trans people are valid.”

Vandy’s Association for Latin American Students advertised the protest, but when asked about it by The Hustler its president said “we don’t really know what Project 2025 entails as a whole other than the parts that concern deportations, citizenship, immigration and things like that.”

Vanderbilt College Democrats President Andrew Kyung said the “systematic [dismantling] of government agencies” shows the Trump administration is engaging “in a troubling shift towards authoritarian governance.”

Given Nashville’s population is roughly 700,000 and overwhelmingly Democratic (despite Tennessee as a whole going for Trump by almost 2-to-1 in November), the fact that the 50501-ers could draw barely over 100 protesters is pretty pathetic.

Which leads to local news covering simpletons like this who drove in from an adjacent county:

Elon Musk should not constitutionally be allowed to do what he is doing to the funds and citizens of the United States. This is a coup by an immigrant from an apartheid country that is throwing Nazi salutes at government functions, and I feel like we should all really be alarmed. The price of food is going to go up, services are going to deteriorate, and it really is going to impact everyone.

Oh, she’s suddenly concerned about high food prices! Just like the mainstream media! Of course!

50501 is planning another Nashville protest on Monday, again at the state capitol because it’s to time to “reclaim President’s Day, a day traditionally recognized to celebrate the presidency — not a King & and his hand-picked, unelected, unrecognized, sycophant, scammer tech bros.”

Progressives and the Democratic Party really are in trouble, at present. Using strategies from Trump’s first term isn’t going to cut it, and making insane demands like those from Richmond, Virginia’s 50501 protest — Trump should “step down or be removed from office,” “stronger laws on hate speech and getting diversity,” and “conduct a mass investigation into the politicians appointed by Trump,” among others — just elicit guffaws of disbelief.

For starters, the party should heed Clay Travis’ warning from a recent University of Chicago appearance (emphasis added):

“Trump took a bullet in his ear and immediately stood up and said, ‘fight, fight, fight.’ Every man in America and most of the women out here were impressed by that. Even if the women won’t admit it. Democrats for men are pussies. There are no masculine men in the Democrat Party right now” (start at 2:39 in video below).

But it won’t. And that’s perfectly fine by me.
