Embry-Riddle bans discussions of how many genders there are in outdoor spaces

Young America’s Foundation threatens legal action against university for censorship

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona, has banned “discussions about the number of genders” in outdoor spaces.

“Discussions about the number of genders has[sic] been determined to meet our definition of political content,” ERAU Director of Student Engagement Kelsey Tempas wrote in a message to Young America’s Foundation members at the school, according to the group.

“Thus, per current campus policies this event cannot take place in outdoor or other public spaces (including tabling locations). If you would like to shift your event to a classroom or other private location, I’m happy to facilitate finding you a new location,” she stated.

The YAF students were “seeking to organize an on-campus activism event on the biological reality that there are two sexes,” the group reported.

“Saying that indisputable biological reality and genetic science is too dangerous to allow in the light of day is a pathetic and cowardly stance for any institution of ‘higher’ learning to take,” YAF Chief Communication Officer Spencer Brown said.

“For Embry-Riddle, which claims to be the ‘world’s largest and most respected university specializing in aviation and aerospace,’ to be too weak to acknowledge the most basic of scientific facts casts serious doubt on its ability to teach the next generation anything,” he said.

Brown also stated that the school is violating President Donald Trump’s executive order titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”

The order requires federally funded institutions to “respect the rights of students to assert the binary nature of sex,” he stated.

YAF said it will formally file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division if the university persists in violating the students’ rights.

Embry-Riddle’s campus in Florida has also blocked conservative student events organized by YAF, citing a policy that restricts outdoor events related to religious and political causes.

The school did not allow the group to host pro-life or pro-Israel events, The College Fix previously reported.

However, the university did permit a pro-transgender event on the “Day of Trans Visibility.”

In response, an attorney representing the campus chapter sent a memo demanding administrators rescind the policy.

The school’s policy states that it “will only be supporting indoor events related to religious and political causes” to “ensure the safety” and “protection” of all students.
