Investigation continues into $7K pro-Palestinian attack on UW president’s home

‘Clock is ticking’: Pro-Palestinian account taunts president, amplifies attacks

An investigation remains open into a pro-Palestinian attack on the University of Washington president’s home.

The attack caused $7,000 in damage to President Ana Mari Cauce’s home and car, according to a police report obtained by The College Fix via a public records request.

UW spokesman Vic Balta told The Fix the Seattle Police Department is working with the university police department on this ongoing investigation. The Seattle PD instructed The Fix to file a new request for its own police report; that request is still pending as of Tuesday.

In the report, there were three offenses listed for the November 14 attack: malicious mischief in the first degree, harassment, and stalking. It appears there are two suspects, both of whom are currently unknown.

The vandals spray painted the front of her house and her car, then slashed three of her tires. They left messages including “FREE PALESTINE” and “ANA MARI COMPLICIT IN GENOCIDE,” among other pro-Palestinian messages.

“The movement will continue to apply pressure to Ana Mari until UW cuts ties with war profiteers such as Boeing, and divests from the Zionist entity,” one message also stated.

In one post, Escalate Seattle stated: “Until UW ends their relationship with Boeing and academically and materially divests from zionism, we will continue to apply pressure on Ana Mari and her accomplices, in all aspects of their life… the clock is ticking.”

Escalate Seattle did not respond to two requests for comment from The Fix in the past month asking about if they had been contacted by law enforcement.

The police report states that there was one female and one male vandal that showed up to vandalize the house at 2:12 a.m. The male appeared to be the lookout, and the female left the message.

The account that posted the original video made another post three days after the attack, further criticizing President Cauce’s professional decisions and connections. They ask “President Cauce: how do you sleep at night?”

In the caption, Escalate Seattle called her a liar and a “war profiteer” over her refusal to cut ties with Boeing, a company they said aids“zionist war crimes.”

The account posted on November 13, 2024 – one day before the attack – regarding a previous vandalism attack at President Cauce’s house on October 28, 2024. It appears that the October attack was part of an initial threat against President Cauce and UW.

Text on the posted photos reads that on October 28, President Cauce’s home “was…covered in red paint and posters of her quotes about Boeing, demands of the campus movement, and of Che Guevara (as a reminder of her familial connection to the Batista regime).”

The account stated:

This action, taken by an autonomous group of individuals, intends to escalate the demands of the UW community: divestment from zionism, cutting ties with Boeing, and ending the repression of pro-Palestine community members… She must fear the consequences of her actions! Targeting her public residence is a step towards bringing the struggle closer to her personal life, making sure she understands that until she cuts ties with genocidal war-profiteers like Boeing, she will not experience rest at work or at home. Cauce– we are waging a war against US’s complicity in genocide. As the president of this university, who has the power to end material relations with one of the world’s biggest weapons manufacturers, we ask you, what will you do when the struggle arrives right at your doorstep?

The University of Washington Hillel declined to comment on The Fix’s inquiry about Hillel’s communications, position, and thoughts surrounding this pro-Palestinian attack. It had previously told The Fix it would comment on the situation.
