CNN reports that the University of South Florida will begin allowing students to check out more than books this fall.
Students will actually be able to check out DRONES!
It sounds like a story from The Onion, but this one is real, unfortunately.
If you are asking yourself ‘Why?’, then you do not understand how much fun it is to be a public university administrator, where your job is to spend tax payers money in whatever way you please.
Just get a load of the explanation for the program handed down by the USF library dean:
“We have a global sustainability program, and they are mapping out the campus to see energy usage, so they can use the drones to help map out the campus,” he explained. “There are a lot of opportunities for research and learning by using drones. And the faculty can use it, too.”
“Global sustainability.” Wow!
Did you get that? These students just might be saving the environment by flying drones. Because flying around drones to “map” the campus would be much more efficient that simply logging on to Google Maps–of course.
Makes perfect sense.
